Understanding Disk Space, Bandwidth, and Resource Usage.
To keep your website running fast and smoothly, it is important to understand how your web hosting account utilizes its allocated server resources. Whenever visitors access your site, resources are consumed.
Here is a simple breakdown of what these resources are and how you can monitor them inside your control panel.
1. What is Disk Space?
Disk Space (or Storage) is the total amount of space allocated to store your website files, databases, code, images, videos, and emails on our server.
Inodes: This is part of your disk usage. An Inode equals exactly one file or folder. Even if a file is 0 KB, it counts as 1 Inode. If you host thousands of small unread emails, your Inode count will increase.
How to check: Inside your cPanel, look at the "Statistics" bar on the right-hand side. Look for Disk Usage and File Usage (Inodes).
2. What is Bandwidth?
Bandwidth is the amount of data transferred between your website and your visitors' web browsers over a specific period (usually calculated monthly).
Every time someone views a page, downloads a PDF, or loads a picture from your site, bandwidth is consumed.
Example: If your website homepage size is 2 MB, and 100 visitors load that page, you will use 200 MB of bandwidth.
How to check: In your cPanel statistics sidebar, look for Bandwidth. Our system resets this counter automatically on the 1st of every month.
3. What is Resource Usage (CPU & RAM)?
Just like your home laptop or phone, a web hosting server relies on CPU (Processor) and RAM (Memory) to run scripts like WordPress plugins, process databases, and handle concurrent visitors.
CPU Usage: The percentage of processing power your account is currently consuming.
Physical Memory (RAM): The amount of temporary memory used to execute your website's active processes.
Step-by-Step: How to Track Your Website Traffic and Resource Usage
If your website is loading slowly or you want to monitor your traffic spikes, you can easily check the analytical tools provided inside your cPanel:
-
Locate Metrics: Scroll down to the "Metrics" section.

-
Check Bandwidth Usage: Click on the "Bandwidth" icon to see a detailed breakdown of your monthly data transfer and identify which days generated the highest traffic.
-
Analyze Live Visitors & Traffic (Awstats): Click on "Awstats" or "Visitors". Select your domain name to view comprehensive visual charts showing exactly how many visitors accessed your site, which pages they viewed, and if there are any specific errors causing the site to slow down.
Tips to Reduce Resource Consumption:
- Optimize Images: Compress images before uploading them to save Disk Space and Bandwidth.
- Enable Caching: Use caching plugins (like LiteSpeed Cache) to reduce CPU and RAM load dramatically.
- Clean Mailboxes: Regularly delete spam or old email logs from your trash folders to clear up your Inode limits.
