How to Install an SSL Certificate and Force HTTPS on WordPress

June 07, 2026 WordPress and One-Click Installs

An SSL Certificate encrypts the data transmitted between your website and your visitors, protecting sensitive user data and improving your Google SEO rankings. When active, it displays a secure padlock icon in the browser address bar.

At CeylonServers, a Free SSL certificate is generated automatically for your domain within minutes of activation. Follow this two-part guide to ensure your SSL is active and to force your WordPress site to use it exclusively.

Part 1: Verify and Run AutoSSL in cPanel

Before configuring WordPress, you must ensure that the SSL certificate is fully installed on our server.

  • Log in to your cPanel dashboard directly.
  • Under the Security section, click on the "SSL/TLS Status" icon.

  • Look at your domain name in the list.
  • If you see a Green Lock icon next to it, your Free SSL is already installed and working perfectly.
  • If you see a Red Lock icon, simply check the box next to your domain and click the blue "Run AutoSSL" button at the top. The server will secure your site within a few minutes.

Part 2: Force HTTPS Globally via cPanel (Recommended)

  • To ensure that even if someone types your old website link without https, they are automatically redirected to the secure version:
  • Go back to your cPanel dashboard screen.
  • In the left navigation sidebar menu, click on WordPress Manager by Softaculous
  • Click the downward arrow icon next to your domain name to expand your website details panel.
  • Locate the "Sign In / Login" configurations and ensure your primary administrative URL path is updated to use the secure prefix.
  • Alternatively, you can go to the cPanel home screen, click the "Domains" icon, and turn the "Force HTTPS Redirect" toggle switch to ON next to your domain name.
