How to Add an Additional Domain or Subdomain in cPanel
Whether you want to host an entirely new website (Additional/Addon Domain) or create a sub-section of your current website (e.g.: blog.yourdomain.com), you can manage it easily.
In the latest versions of cPanel, both additional domains and subdomains are created and managed in one central location called the Domains tool. Follow these steps to set them up:
Step 1: Open the Domains Interface
- Log in to your cPanel dashboard directly.
- Scroll down to the Domains section or search for "Domains" in the top search bar.
- Click on the "Domains" icon.

Step 2: Create a New Domain or Subdomain
- Once inside the interface, click the blue "Create A New Domain" button on the right-hand side.
- In the "Domain" text box, enter your domain name based on what you want to create:
- To Add a Subdomain: Type the full subdomain path (e.g.:
blog.yourdomain.com). - To Add an Additional Domain: Type the new domain name completely (e.g.:
newsite.com).

Step 3: Configure the Root Directory (Crucial Step)
- Right below the domain input box, you will see a checkbox that says: "Share document root (/public_html) with..."
- Important: Uncheck this box! * Leaving it checked will cause your new domain/subdomain to display the exact same website files as your main domain.
- Once you uncheck it, cPanel will automatically create a separate, dedicated folder for this new site (e.g.,
public_html/blogornewsite.com). This keeps your website files organized and completely isolated from each other.

Step 4: Save and Complete
- Review the details you entered.
- Click the blue "Submit" button.
- The system will process your request, and you will see a green success message confirming your domain or subdomain has been added successfully.
Important Post-Setup Checklist:
- DNS Pointing (For Additional Domains): If you added a completely new domain, ensure its Nameservers or A records are pointed to your CeylonServers hosting IP. If it doesn't point to our server, the website will not open.
- Free SSL Issuance: Our system automatically triggers the Free Let's Encrypt SSL script for newly created subdomains and domains. This process usually completes within a few minutes after the DNS propagates globally.
